Belize Wedding Requirements

Dreaming of exchanging vows in paradise? Belize beckons with its captivating allure, boasting a diverse range of picturesque settings, from ancient ruins and verdant jungles to cascading waterfalls and pristine beaches. Beyond its scenic allure, Belize provides the added convenience of globally recognized marriage certificates, simplifying the process for couples seeking a destination wedding.

Here's what you need to know:

Language: English.

Application Process: The streamlined one-day application process requires both partners to present proof of citizenship, including passports and original birth certificates. Additional documentation, such as original or certified copies of divorce or death certificates (if applicable), is necessary. While the presence of a Senior Justice of the Peace is required to witness the signing, the applicants themselves need not be physically present—leave this in the capable hands of your wedding planner or officiant.

Processing Time: A minimum three-day stay in the country precedes the marriage license application. Following a swift one-day processing period, your marriage license will be ready on the fifth day of your stay. For example, if you arrive on a Monday, your dream wedding can unfold that Friday.

Ceremony: Your ceremony must be officiated by a Senior Justice of the Peace or a registered Minister of a church, with the attendance of two witnesses—one male and one female.

License Registration & Processing: After the heartfelt ceremony, your marriage must be registered with the Registry Department. The processing period spans approximately 10 weeks, culminating in the mailing of your certificate to your home address. It's worth noting that weddings around the Christmas or Easter holidays may require some additional processing time.

Select Belize for your destination wedding, where the enchanting landscapes seamlessly blend with a hassle-free marriage process, ensuring that your special day is nothing short of magical.
