    • Day 1: San José - Arrival

      Bienvenidos a Costa Rica! After you arrive to San José’s Juan Santamaría International Airport, your driver will take you to an oasis in the heart of the city – the elegant Grano de Oro Hotel. Take to the city on foot and discover historic architecture, tree-lined boulevards and the delightfully chaotic street-life of Costa Rica’s capital, or catch some R&R and kick back in the rooftop Jacuzzi, and prepare for an action-packed day tomorrow.

    • Day 2: San José to Pacuare - Ride the rapids of the Pacuare River

      Your jungle adventure begins today as you wind through Braulio Carrillo National Park to one of Costa Rica’s wildest jungles – the river gorge surrounding the Pacuare River. Leave your luggage on the bus for a safe terrestrial transfer to Pacuare Lodge and climb in for an exhilarating 90-minute white water rafting trip to take you to your decadent river home base. When you arrive, check in to your stunning, luxurious suite and enjoy a relaxing afternoon lounging around your private plunge pool as the sun sets over the forest canopy.

    • Day 3: Pacuare - Zip line thrills and lunch with a bird's eye view

      Most of the action in the rainforest happens not at ground level, but in the treetops. Today is all about that treetop canopy. Begin after breakfast with a hike into Pacuare’s private reserve to a wooden platform where you’ll face the exotic beauty of the rainforest head-on on a canopy and rappelling tour that offers magnificent views as you rappel towering trees and slide along cables, descending jungle-cloaked mountains. Once you’ve had your adventure fill, head back to the lodge for a relaxing afternoon.

      Today’s lunch will be unforgettable, perched on a platform 60-feet high where you can experience the sights, sounds and scents of the rainforest at eye-level, surrounded by the lush jungle canopy, with only the sounds of birds and the gentle rumble of the Pacuare River below as you dine on a feast prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

    • Day 4: Pacuare - Sunrise birdwatching & indigenous Cabecar tribe experience

      Picture this: 6:00 am – the first blush of morning, amid dappled shadows and misty morning light, you set off into the forest to discover a veritable birder’s paradise, home to some 850 species of birds. Trek along carefully-tended jungle trails with your naturalist guide, as you watch for exotic bird species, including the Montezuma oropendola, sun bittern and a variety of colorful toucans, as well as other rainforest dwellers, including monkeys and sloths as they begin to stir after a night of slumber.

      In the afternoon, hike into the mountains to discover the Cabécar, Costa Rica’s largest indigenous group. Your guide will take you along a trail the Cabécar have walked for centuries to an indigenous settlement deep in the forest where you’ll have the opportunity to meet a Cabécar family, and learn about their traditional customs and beliefs.

    • Day 5: Pacuare to Arenal - In the shadow of majestic Arenal Volcano

      Today, you’ll set out for a three hour land transfer to La Fortuna, Costa Rica’s adventure capital, in the shadow of one of Costa Rica's biggest touristic draws - the magnificent Arenal Volcano. Check into the spectacularly luxe Nayara Resort, where you’ll call home for the next three days. Explore the resort’s magical setting, a lush paradise featuring unparalleled views of the volcano from almost anywhere on the property - not least of all your private veranda with plunge pool - and settle in, taking full advantage of the resort's impeccable service, fine cuisine, and deeply romantic vibe.

    • Day 6: Arenal - Time to relax; an evening in the hot springs

      Today, spend the morning relaxing, or catch a ride into town to see visit La Fortuna Falls. In the afternoon, set out for a leisurely hike of Arenal Reserve to take in stunning views and spot rainforest wildlife along trails that skirt the volcano’s base. Next, head to the luxe Tabacón Hot Springs for dinner and some R&R, as you soak your tired muscles in dozens of warm pools of varying sizes, temperatures, and degrees of privacy, and let the sounds of the cascading waterfalls lull you into a state of deep relaxation.

    • Day 7: Arenal - Sunset lake cruise

      This evening, discover the serenity of Lake Arenal by boat while you admire the volcano, picture-perfect at sunset. Ride along the base of the volcano to Central America’s second-largest freshwater lake, where you’ll board a private boat to amp up the romance as the sun illuminates the western face of the volcano and the sky turns pink above you.

    • Day 8: Arenal to Santa Teresa - From rainforest to beach

      Today, you’ll wind through the scenic central highlands, and then through tropical dry forest on the Nicoya Peninsula to the beautiful, quiet beachside town of Santa Teresa. Check into your luxurious Balinese-style casita at Latitude 10 Resort, and spend the afternoon enjoying your private beachfront veranda as the sound of the waves and tropical breezes lull you into a deep state of relaxation.

    • Day 9: Santa Teresa - Hidden beaches and epic sunset views on horseback

      After a relaxing morning, spend the afternoon on horseback, riding down jungle trails to hidden gems, and panoramic vistas, all while you spot howler and white faced monkeys, agoutis, and a vastly diverse array of brightly-colored tropical birds. As the sun begins to near the horizon, you’ll ride into a quiet beach cove to watch a spectacular ocean sunset before you head back to the lodge.

    • Day 10: Santa Teresa - Unwind at the spa; private candlelit dinner on the beach

      Spend your last full day at Latitude 10 in quiet beach bliss. Having experienced the city and the coast, the rainforest and the sea, today it’s all about pure relaxation with the one you love. Indulge in a couples’ massage to relieve tension and soothe sore muscles. Connect and decompress together with a full body reset that will leave you feeling balanced and relaxed.

      Before resting your head one final time, a delicious meal awaits your arrival at a table set for two on the beach. Dine by candlelight and sip champagne as the sun sets and the stars reveal themselves in the night sky above you – the perfect end to an unforgettable trip.

    • Day 11: Santa Teresa to San José - Departure

      Take a last walk down the beach early before transferring to Tambor for a quick one-hour flight to San José’s international airport. Adios!

    Know Before You Go

    • Itinerary prices are dependent on season of departure. Christmas, New Years and Easter (Semana Santa) are peak season, and prices during these periods are significantlky higher than other times of year. High season runs from November through April, and green season from May through September.

    • Arrival: hotel check-in times are at 3:00pm, but you may arrive at any time during the day. If you arrive prior to the scheduled check-in time, we will arrange for early check-in wherever possible.

    • Departure: hotel check-out times are at 9:00am. International flights on your departure day should be arranged to depart after 1:30pm.

    • All prices in USD.

    • For vaccination recommendations, please visit the CDC website.

    • For American, Canadian, and British citizens, a valid passport with 6+ months remaining is required for entry to Costa Rica.

    • Debit cards may not work in Central America, but most establishments accept major credit cards.

    • Please ensure you have immediate access to a minimum of USD $250 as an emergency fund to be used if circumstances outside our control (e.g. a natural disaster) require changes to your planned route.

    • If departing Costa Rica by air, most major airlines include exit taxes in the price of your airfare; if departing via ground or boat, departure tax is USD $29.

    • It is customary to tip service providers (waiters) around 10% depending on service. Tipping taxi drivers is not required.

    • Gratuities for guides and drivers are deeply appreciated, and provide an important supplement to their income. If you are pleased with the tour services you've received, a guideline for tipping in Central America is USD $8-10 per person per day for multiple-day tours, or USD $5-10 per person for day tours.

    Getting There

    From North America: several airlines offer direct and connecting flights to Costa Rica’s two international airports: Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José (airport code: SJO) and Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia (airport code: LIR). Including connection time, flights from the USA typically range from 2.5-9 hours in duration, while most flights from Canada range from 9-15 hours in duration.

    From the UK: there are currently no direct flights to Costa Rica from the UK, but there are several flight options connecting in the United States and/or Canada. Including connection time, flights from the UK typically range from 12-18 hours in duration.
