    • Day 1: Cayo District - Arrival

Upon your arrival to the airport, you'll be met by a driver and whisked away, down the limestone roads to inland Belize, the heart of the Mayan jungle. Check into the luxe jungle paradise at the Lodge at Chaa Creek and settle in for a good night's rest before your adventure begins tomorrow.

    • Day 2: Cayo District - Explore haunting history in the Mayan ceremonial caves of Actun Tunichil Muknal

Today you’ll embark on a journey into Xibalba (pronounced shi-bal-ba), the Mayan underworld. Begin with a trek that will take you through rainforest and across three river crossings before you arrive to the Cave of the Stone Sepulcher, a spectacular cave held sacred to the Maya who began to use the entrance during the Early Classic period. In later years, as a devastating drought swept over the region, the Maya traveled deeper into the cave to conduct ceremonies and ritual sacrifices.

The cave consists of a series of chambers that ends in a large cathedral space where individuals were sacrificed to the gods of the underworld, and where their remains still lie. Travel into the past in this living museum, where skeletal remains and Mayan artifacts still rest as they were originally placed thousands of years ago.

    • Day 3: Cayo District - Canoe the serene Macal River before discovering Mayan medicinal plants on a jungle expedition

Paddle along the blissful Macal River, which flows from its headwaters in the Maya Mountains all the way to the Caribbean Sea, as your professional naturalist guide points out the numerous species of tropical bird that call the verdant riverbanks home. Then, stop for lunch at Faldy’s in the village of Cristo Ray, where you’ll meet a driver to take you back to the lodge.

In the afternoon, take a walk along the banks of the river and learn about the plants and herbs used in traditional Maya medicine. Find vines that store drinking water, and plants that the Maya still use today to treat malaria, diabetes, infections, and more.

    • Day 4: Cayo District to Mountain Pine Ridge - Catch a fresh breath of air in the mountains

After breakfast, take a winding transfer through the foothills to Hidden Valley Inn, your base for the next three nights. Check in, and set out to explore this unique property, encompassing 7 200 acres, with 90 miles of hiking and biking trails, countless dramatic vistas, and seven private waterfalls, all located within the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve.

    • Day 5: Mountain Pine Ridge - Discover Mayan plazas & pyramids at Caracol, hike to the expansive mouth of the Rio Frio Caves, then take a dip in the natural Rio On pools

After a hearty breakfast, spend the morning discovering one of the largest Maya sites found in Belize today. Situated high on the Vaca Plateau, cloaked in jungle in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, Caracol is home to more than 30 000 structures, and was once home to more than 150 000 residents. Climb the massive Caana, or “Sky Palace” pyramid and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the forest-clad mountains, while learning about this mysterious ancient civilization.

After a picnic lunch at Caracol, ride to the Rio Frio Cave, the largest cave dome in Belize. Just a half mile long, during the dry season, visitors can walk the entire length of the cave and out the other end, and the cave’s massive entrance boasts plenty of natural light, making it an excellent place for photography. Next, head to the Rio On Pools for a quick dip to beat the jungle heat before you return to the lodge.

    • Day 6: Mountain Pine Ridge - Spectacular river vistas and hidden jungle waterfalls

Spend the day making the most of Hidden Valley Inn’s extensive and well-marked trail network, designed to take hikers and bikers to notable highlights throughout the reserve, including waterfalls, panoramic lookouts, swimming holes, and jungle platforms that afford incredible views of the surrounding mountains and forest.

    • Day 7: Mountain Pine Ridge to Placencia - Float through a series of flooded caves on a cave tubing adventure, then find Caribbean bliss in Placencia

Trek along subtropical trails, wade through a river and pass through two caves before you reach a stunning lagoon surrounded by steep limestone walls. Here, climb into an inner tube and let the current carry you into two large chambers – impressive sanctuaries used by the Maya for sacrificial rituals. Plunge into darkness and listen to the sounds of the cascading waterfalls and churning rapids. Once you exit the cave, continue your float along the river until you arrive back at the starting point. Then, set off for the powdery white sand beaches of Placencia, where you'll check into the stunning Naia Resort & Spa, where you'll feel your cares blow away on a gentle tropical breeze.

    • Day 8: Placencia - A day of sun, salt, sailing & snorkeling at Belize's Barrier Reef

After breakfast, you’re off to one of Belize’s best kept secrets, the blissful Silk Caye. This picturesque little island is surrounded by miles of turquoise waters. Spend your day swimming and snorkeling alongside vibrantly-colored tropical fish, curious sharks, and mingling with spotted eagle and stingrays gliding through perfect, clear water. You may even rub elbows with a turtle or two!

    • Day 9: Placencia - Relax and rejuvenate on sandy beaches

This perfect stretch of sand is the perfect spot to relax – beautiful powdery beaches studded by palm trees, and calm, turquoise waters that reach as far as the eye can see. Still, if you’re craving a dose of civilization and a bit of colorful Caribbean flair, take the complimentary shuttle just 15 minutes south to the nearby town of Placencia, where you can sample the local fare and savor a chilled soda, an ice-cold beer or a tropical cocktail at a laid-back waterfront restaurant.

    • Day 10: Placencia - Get a thrill on a zip line and waterfall rappelling adventure

Today, you’ll visit the Mayflower Bocawina National Park to enjoy the longest zip-line in Belize, which takes you at breakneck speed through the virgin rainforest canopy. After you’ve whet your adventure appetite, follow your guide along jungle trails to hidden waterfalls. There, you’ll rappel the sheer cliff faces before cooling off in the mountain spring water of the falls.

    • Day 11: Belize City - Departure

Bid farewell to the tropics, taking a puddle-jumper flight to Belize City to catch your international flight home.
