Belize

General Information

All documents must be certified and submitted to licensing authorities. Faxed applications are not accepted. Services must be are conducted by an ordained Belizean Pastor.

Requirements

  • Notarized marriage license application form
  • Photocopy of the front two (2) pages of passport, and page proving arrival date into Belize
  • Written parental consent if either party is under the age of 18
  • Valid passports
  • Two (2) witnesses
  • Original or certified copies of birth certificates
  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required

Application: must be completed in person

Notice Period: none

Residency Period: a minimum of three (3) days

Waiting Period: allow three (3) days for processing

Language: English

Fees (USD): marriage license $250; administrative fee $5

Costa Rica

General Information

The marriage will not be recognized until a marriage certificate is issued by the Costa Rican Civil Registry.

Requirements

  • For first weddings, couple must go to the Embassy’s Consular Section and make a sworn statement. The Costa Rican marriage certificate is written in Spanish and must be translated by an official translator of the Ministry of Foreign Relations to English. The certificate also must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Relations. The marriage certificate must be notarized and signed by the Embassy’s Consular Section.

  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required

 Cuba

General Information

All weddings in Cuba must be performed by a Notary Public.

Requirements

  • The couple must create a sheet that lists their names, addresses, occupations, levels of education, nationality and the full names of their parents (living or deceased). They must attach a photocopy of the photo page of their passports, then, at least three weeks before arrival, must fax the documents in both English and Spanish to the hotel in Cuba in which they are staying.
  • Valid passports

  • Legally translated documents by the Cuban consulate in Canada
  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required

 Dominican Republic

  • A Single Status Affidavit translated in Spanish
  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required (must be legalized by the Legalization Section of the Dominican Consulate)

Honduras

General Information

No special information.

Requirements

  • A medical report stating that each party is in good physical condition and has had a HIV test
  • An affidavit where the couple express the desire to marry one another
  • Original or certified copies of birth certificates
  • Valid passports
  • Parental consent for parties under 21
  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required 

Application: must be completed in person

Residency Period: paperwork must be received ten (10) days prior to wedding date

Mexico

General Information

  • Tourist cards
  • Blood test done onsite at hotel
  • Four (4) witnesses
  • Parental consent for parties under 18, including names, addresses, nationalities, ages, and tourist card numbers of four (4) witnesses
  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required

Waiting Period: the couples should arrive in Mexico four (4) days prior to the wedding to allow time for documents to be translated to Spanish

Panama

  • Original or certified copies of birth certificates (authenticated by the Panamanian Consulate in the country of residency, then taken to the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores in Panama)
  • Medical certificate issued by a Panamanian doctor within 15 days prior to wedding
  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required

Puerto Rico

  • Marriage application form

  • Parental consent for parties under the age of 18
  • An affidavit stating you are not a resident of Puerto Rico and the sole purpose of your visit is to get married there
  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required

Waiting Period: a doctor in Puerto Rico must evaluate the blood test and will sign the marriage application upon arrival

Venezuela & Margarita Island

General Information

The law in Venezuela states that a marriage must comply with the laws set out in the Civic Code.

Requirements

  • Valid passports
  • Current Venezuelan visa, if applicable
  • Original or certified copies of birth certificates 
  • Two (2) witnesses, minimum
  • Four (4) witnesses for weddings performed in certain locations
  • All documents must be translated into Spanish, and certified
  • Parental consent for parties under the age of 18
  • An affidavit stating you are not a resident of Puerto Rico and the sole purpose of your visit is to get married there
  • Second weddings: proof of divorce or death certificate is required
