As the coronavirus situation evolves around the world, we will provide regular updates to help you make informed decisions about your Belize travel plans.
Latest Update: AUGUST 25
Belize has 713 confirmed cases of COVID-19 within its borders. 45 people have recovered, and 10 people have died, leaving 658 active cases.
Due to a second wave of coronavirus in Belize, the previous August 15 reopening date has been pushed back indefinitely, with no new date set, though the earliest possible date for reopening will be September 3, 2020. The opening of the international airport will signal Belize's third phase of reopening, allowing open entry for chartered flights, private aviation and limited international leisure travel. Land borders will remain closed. Visitors to Belize can expect the following protocols and guidelines to be in effect, including health screening and compulsory monitoring via the Belize Health mobile app.
All visitors to Belize must download the Belize Health app on their mobile phone to allow authorities to manage visitor movement in Belize and provide timely communications to all foreigners. When app development is complete, the app will be available for download at https://covid19.bz.
Visitors will have to register their travel on the app, and then will be provided with a unique QR identification code, which they will then have to provide to authorities upon arrival in Belize.
Visitors are encouraged to take a PCR test at home (within 72 hours of arrival to Belize) to fast-track their entry into the country. A certified negative result can be uploaded via the app. For those that are unable to take a certified test prior to arrival, a rapid test will be given at the visitor's expense upon arrival to the Belize airport. If a positive result is returned, the visitor will be required to enter a 14-day quarantine at an approved facility, at their own expense.
Upon arrival in Belize, visitors will undergo enhanced health screening, including temperature checks and verification of Belize Health app QR codes. Health and safety protocols must be followed for the duration of your stay, including social distancing, and the wearing of masks in public places. All visitors are required to check in daily via the Belize Health app. Additional details are available via the official press release from the Belie Tourism Board. Protocols are subject to change as the situation evolves.
